West Orange Seniors Honored at Essex County Scholastic Awards Dinner
BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the West Orange High School (WOHS) Class of 2018 were recently honored at the 31st Annual Essex County Academic Awards Banquet, which was held at Nanina’s in the Park in Bloomfield to recognize the top two students from of the county’s public high schools.
Aishwarya Kanagala, WOHS Valedictorian, will be attending Rutgers University, where she plans to major in computer science and business. Her course work at WOHS reflects advanced proficiency (AP) classes in computer Science, Statistics, Calculus, Physics, and Literature along with Business Organization and Management. She is a member of the Science Olympiad team and is also involved in the French, Escriptus, Math, Science and National Honor Societies.
Aion Ashby, WOHS Salutatorian, will be attending Johns Hopkins University, where she also plans to major in Computer Science and Business. At WOHS, Ashby performs in the chamber orchestra, takes AP classes in computer science, AP physics, statistics, calculus and business organization and management. She is a Mountaineer Mentor, a member of the Italian Club and Sports Medicine Club and a member of the Italian, Escriptus, Social Studies, Science and National Honor Societies.
“On behalf of the teachers and staff at West Orange High School, we want to congratulate Aishwarya and Aion and wish them the best as they move on to college,” said WOHS Principal Hayden Moore. “They truly represent the spirit and caliber of our students and we are very proud of them.
