West Caldwell Township Council Closes Out 2019 with Well Wishes to Community – TAPinto.net
WEST CALDWELL, NJ — In addition to adopting various resolutions and commenting on recent goings on within the Township of West Caldwell, Mayor Joseph Tempesta and members of the West Caldwell Township Council also took the opportunity to wish all residents a happy and safe holiday season during the last council meeting of 2019.
Items from the consent agenda included passage of resolutions authorizing a contract for health insurance services to Insurance Design Administrators and Delta Dental for 2020 for municipal employees.
The council also authorized for the West Caldwell Police Department to participate in the defense logistics agency, law enforcement support office 1033 program to enable the township to request and acquire excess department of defense equipment.
A resolution to rescind a resolution that awarded Bay Roofing & Construction Co., Inc. for the replacement of the Crane House roof was also passed, with Councilman Michael Docteroff abstaining from the vote.
During his mayor’s report, Tempesta commented on the newly installed traffic light at the intersection of Central Avenue, Washington Avenue and Stonybrook Road.
“It is so nice when government works together in a bipartisan fashion in a relatively short period of time,” said Tempesta, explaining that this was an Essex County project in collaboration with both the township and the local board of education. “There is no greater resource than our children and this light will help to ensure their safety.”
Councilman Stanley Wolsky also commented on the newly installed traffic light and implored all resident to “please not be in such a rush and to slow down,” especially with the holidays coming up.
In other news, Councilman Michael Crudele reported that Camp Wyanokie will benefit from a new WiFi system and security cameras, and Councilwoman Kathy Canale announced that approximately 80 senior citizens have signed up for the holiday luncheon this year.
Providing an update from the West Caldwell Department of Health, Councilman Stanley Hladik reminded residents not to forget to get their flu shots this year.
Council President Joseph Cecere informed residents that Santa Claus will be driving around the community with a police escort on Sunday, beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. Residents can check the township’s website for a schedule of what time Santa will be driving through their neighborhood.
Business Administrator Nicole Baltycki reported that after conducting the annual note sale and receiving four bids for the township’s notes, TD Securities’ rate of 1.75 percent was accepted. The current year’s interest rate is 2.287 percent, she said.
The next township council meeting will be the reorganization to be held on Jan. 1 at noon in the council chambers, where council members Joseph Cecere and Stephen Wolsky will be sworn in for another term after running unopposed in the 2019 election.
