Undefeated Cardona Heads List of Livingston All-SEC Baseball Stars
LIVINGSTON, NJ – Three members of Livingston’s county-champion baseball team were named to Super Essex Conference’s All-American Division team for 2018.
Senior pitcher Ryan Cardona, junior pitcher/third baseman Chris Senney and senior shortstop Brett Mendez were accorded first-team honors for the Lancers. Cardona, a first-team all-state selection by New Jersey Advance Media, finished with a 10-0 record—including a victory in the Greater Newark Tournament championship game against Nutley–and a 0.79 earned-run average. Cardona, who will continue his baseball career at Division 1 Marist, struck out 96 batters in 70 2/3 innings and walked only 20.
Senney also excelled on the mound this season with a 6-2 record, a 1.15 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings. At the plate, Senney batted .500 (35 hits in 70 at-bats) and led the Lancers with 10 extra-base hits and 30 RBI.
Mendez batted .444 with team-high totals of 25 stolen bases, 22 walks and 32 runs scored for Livingston.
Pitcher MJ DePaola, who was 4-2 with a 2.65 ERA on the mound, was named to the All-American Division Second Team.
Austin Chambers and Chris Tamburri received Honorable Mention in the American Division. Chambers batted .303 with six doubles and 13 RBI. Tamburri was a .300 hitter who scored 14 runs and stole seven bases.
