Twice in Two Days: Another Vehicle Overturns in Friday Morning Accident in Maplewood
MAPLEWOOD, NJ – There was a two-vehicle accident early Friday morning at the intersection of Parker Avenue and North Terrace, resulting in an overturned vehicle and several injuries. Firefighters extricated one person who was trapped inside the vehicle.
This was the second time a vehicle has overturned in Maplewood in the past two days; a car also overturned on Prospect Street on Thursday. It was also the second time an occupant of the overturned vehicle was entrapped, and needed to be extricated by firefighters.
The same shift of firefighters who responded to Thursday’s accident were the ones to respond to Friday morning’s accident, performing two extrications from overturned vehicles in less than 24 hours, according to a press release from the Maplewood Fire Department.
At about 6:40 a.m., the fire department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident, and upon arrival, found one vehicle overturned and a passenger trapped inside the car, stated the press release.
Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and the entire roof was removed to gain access to the passenger, who was in the back seat. Using extrication tools, firefighters were able to remove the person from the vehicle in about 15 minutes, according to the press release.
Three people, from two vehicles, had non-life threatening injuries. The passenger of the overturned vehicle was treated and transported to University Hospital in Newark, and the driver of that vehicle was treated and released at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to University Hospital by a University Hospital ambulance, according to the Maplewood Fire Department.
Firefighters did a general cleanup of fluids in the roadway, both vehicles were removed, and the roadway re-opened.
It appeared that the car overturned after being struck by the other vehicle in the collision.
