Tropical Storm Fay In NJ: Timeline, Hour-By-Hour Forecast – Ocean City, NJ Patch
NEW JERSEY – A tropical storm is excepted to be the first of its kind to directly hit New Jersey since Superstorm Sandy in 2012, bringing 60-mph winds, flooding and even possible tornadoes to the region. Patch has the hour-by-hour forecast and timeline for your region, as well as the effects (see below).
The storm was expected to make a direct hit on the Jersey Shore, but all areas of New Jersey will be impacted by mid-to-late afternoon.
Swimming was banned in several Jersey Shore communities, including Beach Haven.
Indeed, nearly all of New Jersey is in the “cone of uncertainty.”
The outer edges of the storm were already impacting South Jersey, leaving the Wildwood area in a soggy mess.
The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for nine New Jersey counties, and a flash flood warning has been issued elsewhere.
Here is what is expected as the brunt of the storm is expected to hit during the mid-to-late afternoon:
- Peak Wind Forecast: 35-45 mph with gusts to 60 mph
- Window for tropical storm force winds will be open until late this afternoon
- Last minute efforts to protect property should now be complete. The area remains subject to limited wind damage.
- Localized storm surge possible. Peak storm surge inundation: The potential for up to 2 feet above ground somewhere within surge prone areas.
- All flood preparations should be complete. Expect flooding of low-lying roads and property. Stay away from storm surge prone areas. Continue to follow the instructions of local officials.
- Potential for a few tornadoes Stay within your shelter, keeping informed of the latest tornado situation.
- A few places may experience tornado damage, along with power and communications disruptions.
- Locations could realize roofs peeled off buildings, chimneys toppled, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, large tree tops and branches snapped off, shallow-rooted trees knocked over, moving vehicles blown off roads, and small boats pulled from moorings.
