Town-by-town list: Coronavirus cancellations and closures in North Jersey – NorthJersey.com

Coronavirus continues to impact local businesses, sporting events and schools in and around New Jersey. 

Here are closures and cancellations throughout North Jersey caused by coronavirus concerns. 

Bergen 

Bergen County Executive James Tedesco declared a countywide state of emergency after New Jersey’s first coronavirus-related death

The Rabbinical Council of Bergen County ordered a temporary closure to all its synagogues and has forbidden public gatherings among Jews in the community.

The Archdiocese of Newark, which has parishes throughout Bergen, Hudson and Essex counties, has suspended Masses on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15.

The Bergen County St. Patrick’s Day Parade held in Bergenfield has been postponed until Sept. 12 

Bergenfield

The Bergenfield Public Library will be closed starting on Friday, March 13, with a tentative reopening date of April 6. The Bergenfield Senior Center is closed until further notice.

All municipal board and committee meetings with the exception of borough council meetings have been postponed.

Bogota

All senior meetings and activities at Borough Hall are suspended. Residents are asked to mail in tax payments or use the secure drop box at the entrance of Borough Hall. Residents are also asked to call, not visit, Borough Hall with questions. Mayor’s Mondays are canceled through April.

Demarest

Borough Hall is closed until further notice. Anyone needing services can call Borough Hall at 201-768-0167 or visit demarestnj.org.

The Demarest Free Public Library is closed until March 29.

Dumont

Dumont Senior Center will be closed until further notice. All non-essential public meetings for the Borough of Dumont will be postponed until further notice. 

The Borough is postponing all public meetings at this time including Mayor and Council meetings.

The Dumont Dixon Homestead Library is closed until further notice.

Emerson

The Emerson Public Library will close on Saturday, March 14, and will remain closed until further notice. All fines will be waived and due dates will be extended. All meetings at the Emerson Senior Center are also canceled until further notice. 

Fair Lawn 

Starting Friday, March 13 through March 22, the Fair Lawn Senior Center will be closed, the public library will be closed, and the community center will be closed. The mini-bus service will be suspended. All large-scale gatherings or special events are canceled, and non-essential borough committee and commission meetings are canceled. Currently, the borough expects to open all facilities by Monday, March 23.

Fort Lee

The Fort Lee Recreation Department and all recreation buildings including the Jack Alter Community Center, the Fort Lee Recreation Center and the Fort Lee Youth Center shall be closed as of 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 13 for a period if 14 days. No one will be allowed to enter any of those buildings and all events, programs and the like are cancelled during this period.

The recreation closure also includes the suspension of all youth sports activities, including travel teams, whether indoor or outdoor including practices, meetings and games are suspended for 14 days. 

All of the town’s public parks, dog park and community gardens, all sport events, group, activities and gatherings at any of our public parks is prohibited during this period.

The parks will remain open for walking and passive activity, however the tennis, basketball courts, sports fields and children’s playground equipment will be closed during this period.

The Fort Lee Public Library will also close as of  5 p.m., March 13 for a period of 14 days and no one will be allowed to enter the building. All library events, activities, meetings and gatherings of any nature shall likewise be postponed during this period.  Please expect additional information and further notices from our library director and library board of trustees.

Franklin Lakes

Ramapo High School and Indian Hills High School will be closed effective 3 p.m. Friday, March 13, until further notice.  Franklin Lakes Schools (K-8) will be closed Friday, March 13, to students so that teachers can prepare for remote/distant learning.  

The Franklin Lakes Public Library will be closed effective 3 p.m. Friday, March 13, until further notice;

All Franklin Lakes Recreation games, practices and events are immediately canceled until further notice, including away games;

All Franklin Lakes ballfields are closed until further notice for any group activity;

The Mayors Wellness Campaign Goals for Hope soccer tournament scheduled for March 22 is postponed to Aug. 22;

The annual Egg Hunt is cancelled; and

All meetings scheduled for the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps building, the Senior Center at the Bender Court Firehouse and the Emergency Management building,  except meetings of emergency response personnel, are canceled, until further notice. 

Garfield

The city has closed its senior center until further notice.

Haworth

All programs at the Haworth Public Library from March 16 to March 31 have been cancelled. 

The county-sponsored shredding event scheduled to take place on Saturday is also canceled as well as other events such the Seniors St. Patrick’s Day luncheon, the Haworth Coffee House and the Annual Egg Hunt.

Little Ferry

The senior center is closed and the senior bus service has been halted.

Lodi

The Lodi High School Drama Club will not be conducting this weekend’s March 13 and March 14 performances of The Addams Family under the advice of local and state health officials. It is unclear at this time if the performances will be rescheduled.

Due to public health concerns, The Boys and Girls Club of Lodi and Hackensack decided it best to postpone the annual Beefsteak Tricky-Tray Fundraiser, which was scheduled for April 2. A future date has yet to be decided.

The US Army Corps of Engineers public meeting scheduled for March 19 has been canceled as a public health precaution. The meeting will be rescheduled at a later date. The meeting will update the public on an ongoing USACE construction project that began in January 2020. It will also include an administrative update to the 2003 Record of Decision for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) Maywood Superfund Site.

Mahwah

Senior Center closed until further notice.

Maywood

The Senior Center and Recreation Center is closed as of Thursday, March 12. 

The library is closed to the public as of Thursday, March 12. 

All recreation activities and non-essential committee and Board meetings are canceled as of Thursday, March 12. 

The Maywood Street Fair scheduled for April 26 has been canceled. 

New Milford

The Senior Center and  Library will be closed as of Friday, March 13.

Senior transportation will be suspended as of Friday, March 13.

Organized Recreation sports and activities will be suspended as of March 13.

The library will close to the public starting Friday with a tentative reopening date of March 30. All scheduled meetings, programs and events are cancelled until the library reopens.

Borough Offices will be fully operational but the building will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 16.

All facilities and services are tentatively scheduled to resume normal operation beginning Monday, March 30. The decision to resume normal operations may be reevaluated as the date approaches.

Oakland

Ramapo High School and Indian Hills High School will be closed effective 3 p.m. Friday, March 13, until further notice. 

Oradell

The Oradell Public Library, Oradell Borough Hall and the kickoff for the Mayor’s Wellness campaign are also closed until further notice. All recreation activities and sports and all performances at the Bergen County Players Theater are postponed.

Paramus 

Until further notice, the Paramus Public Library is closed. The Senior Center is closed and trips suspended. Senior bus service limited to supermarket. Restricted visitation to the Behnke Affordable Housing Project, and modified recreation activities. The Behnke museum is closed.

Palisades Park

The Library Board of Trustees meeting for the month of March has been canceled. 

The public library will be closed starting Thursday, March 12, with a tentative reopening date of Tuesday, March 31.

The Board of Adjustment Meeting scheduled for March 16 at 7 p.m. is canceled. 

River Edge

The borough has canceled all indoor recreation activities this weekend, March 14 and 15. The River Dell High School performance of “Into the Woods” has been postponed to April 23 to 26. The River Edge Public Library will close on Saturday, March 14, until further notice. 

Teaneck 

All senior activities at the Richard Rodda Recreation Department, and all scheduled court sessions in the Teaneck Municipal Building are canceled. The Teaneck Library will be rescheduling or canceling all large events until the end of March. The township has also canceled all non-essential meetings, including advisory boards and commissions.

Tenafly

The Tenafly Public Library will be closed until March 29. Borough Hall is operating on a split schedule that separates employees by time and space, and recreation and travel sports activities have been canceled until April 1. 

Washington Township

The Township of Washington Public Library, Senior Center and Borough Hall will be closed until further notice. Residents can still reach officials by e-mail and phone. All spring recreation sports are suspended until April 6. All township parks and fields will be closed to organized and unorganized activities. The court session for Thursday, March 19th has been canceled.

Westwood

The Westwood Community Center, The Thomas J Riley Senior Center and Westwood Free Public Library are closed until further notice. Borough fields will also be closed to organized sports teams and trainers. The borough is asking non-organized group activites to be limited to 10 people or less.

Borough playgrounds and parks will remain open, but restrooms at Westvale Park will be closed until further notice. Borough hall will also remain open, but officials are asking community members to contact officials by phone or e-mail before coming in to limit potential exposure.

Wyckoff

Ramapo High School and Indian Hills High School will be closed effective 3 p.m. Friday, March 13, until further notice. 

Morris

The Morris County Library has canceled all public programming from March 13 – 31.

The Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference spring sports season will not begin until April 13. Individual high schools may conduct practices and scrimmages.

Boonton

The Recreation and Senior Centers are closed and all associated programs have been canceled as of March 13.

Morristown

The state’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in Morristown on Saturday, March 14 has been canceled due to virus concerns. 

Effective immediately, the Mayo Performing Arts Center is suspending all public performances, classes and events.

Mine Hill

The Mine Hill Township St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Friday, March 20 has been canceled. Refunds will be issued to those who purchased tickets for the Civic Center event. 

Parsippany 

The Police Athletic League canceled all games and activities through the weekend and closed the facility as of March 13. The PAL will revisit the closure on March 16 and assess the status on a week-by-week basis. 

Passaic

Ringwood

Like many other municipalities throughout North Jersey, Ringwood has postponed its St. Patrick’s Day Parade “out of an abundance of caution,” as stated on the Borough’s website. A new date has not been announced. 

Paterson

All recreation and senior activities citywide are canceled as of March 13. 

Riverside senior citizen center is closed until further notice. 

Pompton Lakes

In separate announcements on Friday, March 13, Pompton Lakes Mayor Michael Serra indefinitely postponed all town recreation programs and suspended all non-essential committee, board and commission meetings until further notice.

West Milford

West Milford Township will suspend all municipally-sponsored recreation programs at 3 p.m. on March 13. The suspension will last until April 13, Mayor Michele Dale said.

Woodland Park

Woodland Park’s Boys and Girls Club will be closed for all senior programs. 

Additionally, all basket ball games and practices are suspended. Plus all activities and get togethers are suspended.

The Young at Heart Club meetings are suspended. 

Essex

Montclair

Montclair public will close on Monday, March 16 for two weeks and online learning will commense.

The Montclair Film Festival, set for May 1 to 10, and the Montclair Literary Festival, scheduled for March 25 to 29, are both postponed. No new dates have been set.

Bloomfield

All schools will be closed for two weeks starting on Monday, March 16. All extracurricular and school-related activities and events are canceled until further notice.  

Bloomfield canceled its Census Kickoff Event that was scheduled for Thursday in addition to its zoning board meeting.

Verona

Verona’s Bingo Night to benefit UNICO Verona scholarships, scheduled for Friday, March 13, has been canceled.

Millburn

Millburn’s Founding Day celebration, scheduled for March 15, has been postponed until further notice. A new date has not been announced.

The complimentary on-site hearing screenings at the Millburn Library, planned for March 25, has been canceled.

West Orange

In the wake of Essex County’s first confirmed coronavirus case, the county announced the closing of the Turtle Back Zoo and Codey Arena in addition to county golf courses and senior buildings within the county park systems for two weeks.
