Toms River Shooting Probe Continues; Victim Critical – Toms River, NJ Patch

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Bayville man is in critical condition Monday after he was shot in the head while sitting in a vehicle outside at Toms River apartment complex, authorities said.

Javon Cutler, 19, of Bayville, was the victim in the shooting that happened Sunday evening, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little said.

Billhimer and Little said that while the investigation is continuing, “there is no known danger to the public at this time.”

Cutler and two friends were leaving the Toms River Apartments on Main Street about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday when a person shot at the vehicle, authorities said. Cutler was sitting in the back seat and was struck in the head by one of the gunshots, they said.

The driver of the vehicle went straight to Community Medical Center in Toms River, and police were called to the hospital about 8:30 p.m. for the report of a person with a gunshot wound.

Cutler was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, the prosecutor’s office said.

The prosecutor’s office Major Crime Unit, Toms River police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are investigating.
