Toms River Schools need your help fighting School Funding Formula – wobm.com

The Toms River Regional School District, which covers Toms River, Pine Beach, Beachwood and South Toms River, is set to lost roughly $8.1 million in the upcoming school year due to cuts from the State’s School Funding Formula (S2), the second highest amount for any district in New Jersey.

Over the last three years, Toms River School Administration and Board officials, teachers, students, staff and parents and alumni have teamed up to come up with any way to convince Governor Phil Murphy, State Senate President Steve Sweeney, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and others to ease up on the reins of the S2 formula which is causing districts like Toms River, Brick, Jackson and Freehold Regional, among many others to find ways to function while being cut millions in dollars from the state.

In a new effort, the Toms River Regional School District is asking its staff as well as parent and the community to read their letter and have phones fully charged because they have some homework they are asking you to do for them.

In football terms, they’re calling it a Blitz and that’s what they intend to do with leaders in Trenton over the phone.

“Our district, in collaboration with our SOS cohort of more than 100 other negatively-affected districts, have targeted Wednesday, March 24, 2021 as a day to blitz the Governor’s Office, the Senate President’s Office, the Assembly Speaker’s Office, and local legislators with phone calls and emails expressing just how devastating these cuts are to our students and communities.”
