Todd Goren Announces Candidacy for Livingston Board of Education

Todd Goren has filed a petition with the Essex County Clerk to seek one of the two open seats in the November Livingston Board of Education election.

An eleven year Livingston resident, Mr. Goren is a parent of three children in Livingston Public Schools. His family has been actively involved in the school system with his wife Laura, a Livingston High School graduate, holding multiple volunteer leadership roles at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, Mt. Pleasant Middle School, Heritage Middle School and the Parent-Teacher (PT) Council.  Mr. Goren also frequently coaches youth sports for his children.

“I am a proud Livingston resident and parent of three children in elementary and middle school. My wife and I moved to Livingston because of the strong school system, from which my wife graduated and spoke so fondly. However, over the past 8 years while my children have been in public school, we have seen six different superintendents.  I am running for the Board of Education because I am a concerned parent who believes a change in Board leadership is necessary to attract and retain a superintendent; one who will grow with our District for many years to come.  This consistency at the top will finally provide the stability that is necessary for any healthy school system.”

Mr. Goren, an attorney, is a partner at Morrison and Foerster, LLP. His expertise is bankruptcy and corporate restructuring.   Throughout his career, Mr. Goren has counseled distressed corporations to help them reorganize and succeed going forward.  Mr. Goren earned his undergraduate degree in business from Washington University in St. Louis and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. 

“As part of my law practice, I regularly advise boards of directors to help them navigate difficult times.  I have observed many similarities between the struggles of the corporate boards I work with and our current Board of Ed in Livingston. Unfortunately, our district has had a constant turnover in top administration. Just like a revolving door of CEOs, this is a problem. It suggests that something is broken in our Board of Education.   I intend to bring my governance and restructuring expertise to the Livingston Board of Education and help it reestablish practices and procedures that can sustain success long after my tenure on the Board.”
