Thieves Swipe $5K From Short Hills Mall In Wee Hours: Police – Millburn, NJ Patch
MILLBURN, NJ – While three suspects were thwarted in their attempts to break into a Louis Vuitton store in the Short Hills mall in the early hours of Tuesday morning, police said, they were still able to steal $5,000 from a restaurant and take off.
Malls in New Jersey are largely closed due to the coronavirus lockdown (read about what kind of steps they’ll need to reopen), but 35 stores in the Short Hills mall are open for ordering, curbside pickup, and in some cases, delivery (read the list here).
The Millburn Police said that at 4:43 a.m. on May 26, they were dispatched to the Mall at Short Hills on a report of a burglary. Mall security reported that three “unknown thin black males wearing hooded sweatshirts” entered the mall, then tried to get into the Louis Vuitton store, but were unsuccessful.
However, police discovered that the men had burglarized Primo Mercato, nabbing $5,000 in cash before leaving.
The Millburn Police Detective Bureau is investigating.
The mall has been hit by thieves many times, particularly the high-end stores.
