Different towns throughout the state have been ranked by the level of education achieved by each respective population. When compared to the country, New Jersey fares very well on their educational makeup. With 38.9% of residents 25 and over holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, the state holds the fifth seat in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
A public policy professor at Rutgers University, James Hughes, was consulted for the NJ.com article and stated that the towns on the list fall into three areas being: 1) proximity to Philadelphia and New York City, 2) higher education within the state, such as Rutgers in New Brunswick and Princeton University, and 3) towns with a “powerful suburban office economy” said Hughes, such as Livingston in Essex County.
