The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders Approve Funding to Fix Fence at Vailsburg Park – TAPinto.net
(Newark, NJ) – On July 10, 2019, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders unanimously approved two resolutions to make perimeter fence improvements to Vailsburg Park in Newark. The first resolution allocated $191,000.00 from the Open Space Trust Fund to be used for fence improvements and other landscaping measures, while the second resolution awarded the contract to WBE Fence Company Inc.
Specifics of the work include the installation of 2,500 feet of new decorative steel fence panels, the trimming of trees, and pruning of various areas around the perimeter of the park. This will be great for the safety and security of the park, as well as improve the appearance of the park and surrounding areas.
Pamela McElveen of the Palm Street Block Association has been a staunch advocate for Vailsburg Park and the neighboring communities. According to Ms. McElveen, the urgency of improving the park and fixing the fence is a quality of life issue. “My concern is for the kids. There are two schools in the area, and the park fence is right along Oraton Parkway. By fixing the fence, our children will feel safer and more secure where they play.”
Freeholder President Brendan Gill added, “Ms. McElveen has come before the Board on multiple occasions asking for the Vailsburg Park Fence to be fixed. We appreciate her advocacy given on behalf of the community, and we are pleased that the Administration was able to accommodate her request and bring these resolutions before the Board. The patrons of Vailsburg Park will benefit from the fence, and anytime we can make a public area safer for children, that is always something to be proud of.”
The project is currently underway and expected to be completed within 90 days.
