‘Tan Mom’ in ‘great spirits’ after reportedly coming out of coma – NJ.com

Patrcia Krentcil, the former New Jersey mother known to many as “Tan Mom,” has provided an update on her health after reports that she was “fighting for her life” in a Florida hospital last week.

According to Us Weekly, Krentcil recently came out of a medically-induced coma and is “ready to live life to the fullest” after a bout with pneumonia.

Patricia Krentcil was thrust into the national spotlight after she was accused of allowing her then-5-year-old daughter to go into a tanning booth with her.

The Nutley, New Jersey native told Us Weekly that she is “getting better day by day” and said she is thankful for well wishes from fans.

“With everyone praying every day and never giving up, it worked …This is a new chapter for Patricia Marie, and can’t wait to share my story with Howard and the world.” Krentcil told the magazine.

Krentcil, 51, rose to fame after her high profile 2012 arrest in Essex County.

She was arrested after school district officials in her town realized her then-5-year-old daughter had suffered burns. The child had mentioned she had gone tanning with her mother, which in turn prompted second-degree charges against Krentcil (children under the age of 14 aren’t allowed to use tanning booths). A grand jury said they didn’t find enough evidence to indict her.

Much of Krenctil’s notoriety came from her tanning habits and extremely tanned appearance.

In the past Krentcil has said the ordeal became burdensome, turning to therapy to cope. She did a brief stint in alcohol rehab in 2013. Since then moved to Florida to pursue a career in music.

Just last week outlets reported that her pneumonia had taken a “turn for the worse” and that Krentcil was on life support.
