‘Tan mom’, formerly of Nutley, recovering after pneumonia sends her to ICU – NorthJersey.com
Patricia Krentcil, who became known as “tan mom” in 2012 when she stirred controversy by bringing her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, is recovering after pneumonia sent her to the intensive care unit.
Krentcil lived in Nutley before moving to Florida last year. Her music producer Adam Barta said that Krentcil will be back and that she’s a tough cookie.
“She’s a strong lady, and I fully expect her to be on the phone with Howard in a week or two reliving this ordeal,” Barta tweeted on Saturday.
Krentcil became a frequent guest on “The Howard Stern Show.” On Monday, a staffer on the show said that Krentcil had her lungs drained and is in stable condition. She did go into cardiac arrest at one point during her hospital stay, though.
“Tan mom” became something of a phenomenon in 2012. Krentcil made dozens of TV and radio appearances. She also launched a self-tanning product and started writing an autobiography. She toned down the tanning after her initial public appearances, too.
She tried her hand at music, with a song titled “Free 2 Be Me” released last year.
In 2013, an Essex County grand jury declined to indict Krentcil on child endangerment charges related to the tanning incident. It did help inspire a bill prohibiting anyone under 17 from using a commercial tanning bed.
