SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ –The Sussex County officials reported nine new case and no additional deaths on October 15. 

As of October 15, there were 1711 cases of COVID-19 in the county, 197 deaths and 1,379 recovered coronavirus patients. One case has been reassigned out of the county.

The New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard a total of 83 students and staff have tested positive for coronavirus across the state in 22 school outbreaks.  An outbreak is defined by the dashboard as two or more laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases among students or staff with onset within 14 days, who are epidemiologically linked within the school setting, do not share a household and were not identified to be in close contact with each other” outside of school.

According to the New Jersey Department of Education in 2018 there were approximately 1.37 million children in public schools.  They report 116,351 classroom teachers in 2018.

In-school transmission is that which occurs between students and staff on school property during “curricular activities.”

In New Jersey the Rt rate rose slightly to 1.16 as of October 15. Any number over 1 indicates the virus is spreading. The mortality rate in the state continues to decline as the rate of positive tests is increasing.

State officials announced hospitalizations on Thursday are 733 from 699 on Wednesday.

New Jersey had an additional 971 new coronavirus cases and six additional COVID-19 death on October 15 according to the state department of health.

New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard reported there were 14,408 deaths and 216,994 confirmed positive coronavirus cases with a mortality rate of 6.69% as of October 15. The dashboard said 4,070,257 New Jersey residents been tested as October 15.

Bergen County continues to have the highest number of positive tests in the state with 23,495 patients and 1,808 deaths. Hudson County is reporting 21,425 positive tests and 1,361 deaths. 

Essex County is reporting the highest COVID-19 death toll with 1,904 coronavirus related deaths and 22,129 positive test results. 

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus resource center, the United States currently has 7,977,097 confirmed cases and 217,754 coronavirus deaths, with a mortality rate of 2.72%. As of October 15, New York City continues to report the highest number of coronavirus related deaths with a reported 33,337 New York has also reported 78,006 recovered coronavirus patients.

New Jersey Department of Human Services has launched a hotline for residents who need help coping with stress and anxiety during the health crisis.  The hotline is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week- 866-202-4357.

St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson is also providing a free helpline for hearing impaired Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 973-870-0677.
