SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – Sussex County Division of Health announced two new coronavirus patients and no new deaths.  This brings the total number of cases in the county to 1187 with 181 deaths and 991 recovered patients, as reported on June 11.

The weekly report from county officials said 617 COVID-19 patients are female, 570 are male. The report said 85 women and 96 men have died from COVID-19 in the county.

According to Sussex County officials, public libraries will be permitted to do curbside pickups beginning June 15.  Personal care business including hair salons will be able to reopen on June 22.   Organized sports will be allowed to resume on June 22 as well.

School districts will be able to offer in-person summer education programs beginning July 6.

New Jersey officials have announced 1,480 COVID-19 patients are being treated in the 71 hospitals in the state, a new low, patients in intensive care are also at a new low of 415.

Governor Murphy listed the types of personal care businesses that will be able to open on June 22.  They include, barber shops, beauty salons, cosmetology shops, day spas, medical spas performing elective and cosmetic procedures, massage parlors, nail salons, tanning salons and tattoo parlors.

Both employees and patrons must follow rules that include temperature checks, face masks and frequent sanitization.  All operations must be by appointment.  Saunas, steam rooms and shared bathing facilities will not be allowed.

Murphy also gave additional guidance for school districts to conduct summer programs, beginning July 6. 

Murphy said organized sports including youth recreation, high school and college can have outdoor practices and non-contact drills, beginning June 22.  He said the Department of Health will release additional guidelines.   

The health commissioner announced one additional child has been reported to have the rare pediatric inflammatory ailment that comes from an overreaction of the immune system to COVID-19, brining the total to 40; three are hospitalized but none have died.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard there are 12,489 reported coronavirus deaths and 166,164 confirmed positive coronavirus cases. The dashboard did not post the number of New Jersey residents have been tested as of June 12.

Bergen County has passes Hudson County and is now the highest number of positive tests in the state with 18,743 coronavirus patients and 1,649 deaths.  Hudson County is reporting 18,693 positive tests and 1,246 deaths.  Essex County is reporting the highest COVID-19 death toll with 1,728 coronavirus related deaths and joh18,295 positive test results

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus resource center, The United States currently has 2,033,003 confirmed cases and 114,126 coronavirus deaths.  New York City has reported 30,630 COVID-19 related deaths and 68,211 recovered patients as of June 12.

New Jersey Department of Human Services has launched a hotline for residents who need help coping with stress and anxiety during the health crisis.  The hotline is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week- 866-202-4357.

St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson is also providing a free helpline for hearing impaired Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 973-870-0677.
