Sussex County COVID-19 April 14 – TAPinto.net

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – Sussex County has reported two more residents have died from coronavirus. The victims are an 85-year-old man from Andover and a 95-year-old man from Frankford according to a statement Sussex County Freeholder Director Sylvia Petillo.

This brings the total COVID-19 related deaths in the county to 30.

While there is still no testing in Sussex County, the drive thru site at County College of Morris will be accommodating about 75 Sussex County residents each day, according to an announcement by the department of health.

The testing is done by appointment and people seeking to be tested must have a prescription from a doctor or medical provider according to the announcement.

The CCM testing site will be accommodating approximately 240 Morris County residents each day, in addition to Sussex County residents. 

“To be tested you must be in a vehicle, must have identification, must have an appointment and must have a prescription, preferably printed, from a medical provider,” the statement said.  Appointments are to be made on the Morris County website.

The Sussex County Department of Health and Sussex County Office of Emergency Management are asking people in non-essential businesses to donate any personal protective equipment or PPE.  The announcement by Director James McDonald says the current crisis has left supplies of PPE low for healthcare workers and first responders.

  • Nitrile gloves any size,
  • Coveralls/Tyvek Suits/ Medical Gowns any size,
  • N95 masks,
  • Procedure masks,
  • P100 Masks/ Air Purifying Respirators.

Donations can be brought to the Sussex County Office of Mosquito Control at 150 Morris Turnpike in Newton, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  Receipts will be provided.

Sussex County has also had an additional 38 residents with positive test results bringing the total to 538.  There is still no testing in Sussex County.

The New Jersey COVID-19 dashboard reports as of April 14, there have been a total of 128,604 total tests reported; 68,824 positive tests, 70,950 and 2,805 deaths, related to coronavirus. Bergen County continues to have the most patients with 10,426 and 550 deaths.

Hudson County has the second highest count of residents with positive test results; 8,242 patients with 277 deaths. Essex County has slightly fewer patients with 8,212 and 535 deaths.

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus resource center, The United States currently has 6009,240 confirmed cases with 3,081,620 people tested and 26,033 coronavirus deaths.  New York City has reported   COVID-19 related deaths.

The state COVID-19 hotline can be reached by dialing 2-1-1 or 1-800-962-1253 or text NJCOVID to 898-211.

Testing for coronavirus is still not available in Sussex County.  Anyone who is concerned they may have symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to contact their doctor. Testing can be provided at the Community College of Morris with an appointment and a prescription.
