Superintendent Peter Capodice Retires from Union County Vocational-Technical School – TAPinto.net
UNION, NJ – Family, friends, public officials and colleagues came together at a retirement celebration for long time Union resident, former Union mayor and Superintendent of the Union County Vocational-Technical School, Peter Capodice.
Capodice, 67, joined the Union County Vocational-Technical School District in September 1999 as the School Business Administrator/Board Secretary. Shortly thereafter he became the Assistant Superintendent for Business, followed by Assistant Superintendent under Superintendent Thomas J. Bistocchi. Capodice was appointed Acting Superintendent in November 2012 and Superintendent of Schools on January 1, 2013.
Prior to joining UCVTS, Capodice spent 23 years in the banking and finance and sales and marketing fields.
Capodice spent 12 years as an elected official in Union, including two stints as mayor in 2001 and 2006. He entered the educational arena in July 1993 when he was appointed the School Business Administrator/Board Secretary in Rockaway Borough in Morris County. Capodice also served with the Readington Township Public Schools in Hunterdon County and with the State of New Jersey as the Essex County School Business Administrator.
“I am proud and honored to have served as Superintendent of nationally acclaimed schools,” said Capodice. “Each of our schools has earned the distinguished Blue Ribbon Award and all are ranked as top in the county, state and nation.”
“Working with such outstanding staff and administrators we became a district of firsts,” continued Capodice. “We were the first district to open a recovery high school for students with drug and alcohol dependencies in the state of New Jersey and the first school in the state to open a Simon Youth Academy in partnership with the Simon Mall Group and the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.”
Capodice has lived in Union with his wife Judy since 1976. Capodice and his wife have two sons, Chris and Corey.
At the retirement celebration, those paying tribute to Capodice included Union’s Deputy Mayor Joseph Florio, Judy Savage from the New Jersey Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools, Jean Perkins and Lawrence Caroselli, Union County Vocational-Technical Schools Board of Education representatives, Dr. Thomas Bistocchi, retired Superintendent, Union County Freeholder Alexander Mirabella, and State Senator Joseph Cryan.
About his future plans, Capodice said, “right now my plans are just to take a break, enjoy the holiday season with my family and take a trip to Disney in January with my son Corey, his wife Lisa and my grandchildren Dylan, 3, and Ryder, 2 months.”
Capodice’s son Chris is married to Lisa. They have two children, Madison, 12, and Christopher, 6.
“After that, I know I can’t sit around and do nothing all day so l will check out some options in late winter,” added Capodice.
