Soggy Weather Doesnt Dampen Halloween Spirit In Essex County – Montclair, NJ Patch

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A soggy weather forecast for Halloween didn’t dampen spirits in Essex County, if social media photos are any evidence.

As weather forecasters called for a two-day Halloween storm across New Jersey – including thunder and lightning and 60-mph wind – many were left wondering if the holiday was ruined.

But in Essex County, the Halloween spirit endured.

Some events moved indoors to escape the weather. At Turtle Back Zoo, the annual “Howl-O-Ween event” took place rain or shine, with organizers setting up covered stations for visitors.

The South Orange Village Center also moved its Halloween Festival indoors due to the weather forecast.

Others got into the holiday spirit indoors. Residents of Roseland got a chance to cast votes for the “best decorated” house in town through an online contest (see the choices).

The staff at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston offered some adorable “boos!” from the NICU.

The South Mountain YMCA didn’t let a little rain stop their Halloween celebration.

At the West Essex YMCA, kids got cute “banana ghosts” as a special Halloween snack.

Speaking of snacks…

Some school districts in Essex County also got in on the fun.

At Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell, entertaining chemistry displays involving a jack-o-lantern and “fire breathing” took place.

In Bloomfield, students at Oak View School got a treat when Anthony Sisco of the Bloomfield Police Department stopped by to read them his favorite Halloween book.

In the West Essex Regional School District, master carver and woodshop teacher Lee Oberg carved a piece of pumpkin artwork as a demonstration to his students.

Other school districts gave a social media shout out to past Halloween glories.

In West Orange, administrators reshared a 2009 video of students and staff at Roosevelt Middle School performing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” The video has gotten more than 52,000 views since being posted.
