Severe Thunderstorm Downs Trees, Power Lines in Union Saturday – TAPinto.net

UNION, NJ – The brief but powerful storm that rolled through Union Saturday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, brought down trees and power lines across town. The storm hit the area just after 5:00 p.m.
According to Union police, emergency dispatch (9-1-1) received thirty-three calls reporting trees and wires down and power outages to traffic lights and residences throughout town. A transformer fire was reported on the railroad tracks behind Gifford Court.
“The Police and Fire Departments responded to ensure the safety of the residents affected,” said Union Police, “as well as the motoring public traveling within the township on the roadways.”
