Rep. Payne, Jr. Promotes Child Tax Credit to Help District Families During Pandemic

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. held a Child Tax Credit event in the district today to discuss the benefits of it and help local families get the payments.  The Congressman spoke about the credit in detail before local parents and child advocates discussed how it would help families directly.  On July 15, the expanded Child Tax Credit will provide eligible American families with payments of $250 to $300 per child every month until the end of 2021.

“The expanded Child Tax Credit will help New Jersey families pay for food, housing and other necessities during this global pandemic,” said Rep. Payne, Jr.  “It can help thousands of district families survive during these difficult times.  I organized this event because I want all eligible New Jersey parents to take full advantage of this credit.  As a father of three, I know how every extra dollar can make a difference in household budgets.  President Biden and Congressional Democrats are committed to helping American families during this crisis and the expanded Child Tax Credit is a great example of that.”

The expanded Child Tax Credit was part of the American Rescue Plan.  It is available to all New Jersey families with children under 17 years old that earn $150,000 or less for a two-parent household and $75,000 or less for a single-parent household.  Families with children under six years old will receive $300 payments and families with children between six and 17 years old will receive $250 payments.  The credit will benefit 84 percent of children in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District and bring at least 12,000 local children out of poverty.

Qualified parents must file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or sign up through the IRS Non-Filer Tool to become eligible for the payments.  For more information, visit ChildTaxCredit.gov.
