Registration Open for South Orange Junior Police Academy
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The South Orange Police Department Youth Aid Division will offer a Junior Police Academy the week of August 6 to August 10 at the Baird Center.
The camp is open to students ages 9 to 13 who are either South Orange residents or students in the South Orange Maplewood School District, according to an update on the South Orange Police Department’s Facebook page,
According to the update, the “Junior Police Academy is designed to show students the training and preparation that goes into the making of a new Police Officer” and “the object of the Junior Academy is to promote an environment where the student learns the basic principles of respect, discipline, drug and alcohol awareness, teamwork, motivation and dedication to a ‘greater cause.'”
The Junior Police Academy will provide a chance for children to meet many of the South Orange police officers, as well as learn about other agencies, stated the Facebook page update.
Applications are available online here and at the South Orange Police Department. Space is limited to 24 students. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The fee to attend is $65.
