Police Make Arrest In NJIT Students Hit-And-Run Death – Newark, NJ Patch

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police have arrested an East Orange woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that resulted in the death of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) student Naomi R. Segura, 25, of Byram Township earlier this month.

Brianna Williams, 21, of East Orange, allegedly struck and killed Segura with her Jeep Cherokee around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 as she was walking in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Summit Street in Newark, according to a joint statement from Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens and NJIT Police Chief Joseph Marswillo.

Segura sustained was rushed to University Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The car that struck her did not stop, although the driver of a second car did stop and called for help, authorities said.

Williams was arrested and charged with the hit-and-run after an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Bureau. She is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
