Paterson Man Arrested After Fleeing Sheriff’s Officers in November – TAPinto.net

PATERSON, NJ – A 28-year-old Paterson man who is said to have fled a motor vehicle stop on November 16 was arrested by members of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Monday.

According to Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, detectives observed Martin J. Torres standing at the corner of Essex Street and Madison Street, and recognizing him as the suspect in the previous incident placed him under arrest. 

Berdnik shared again that Torres was originally pulled over at the intersection of Memorial Drive and College Boulevard on the day of the initial incident, and fled at a high rate of speed when an officer approached the passenger side of his vehicle. While a pursuit ensued it was terminated at at the intersection of Halpine Street and Hopper Street. The next day the suspect’s vehicle was found parked unoccupied on North 10th Avenue and Belmont Avenue at which point it was towed to headquarters and  processed for fingerprints.

An investigation, including the use of video footage retrieved from surveillance cameras in the area aided in identifying Torres as the suspect. In addition to being charged with Resisting Arrest/Eluding Torres was issued 11 motor vehicle summonses.
