Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Hawthorne Man on Child Pornography Charges – TAPinto.net

HAWTHORNE, NJ – According to a statement from the office of Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, a four month investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Internet Crime Against Children Task Force resulted in the arrest of 28 year-old Hawthorne resident Joseph A. Kosa on November 7.

Detectives used a number of tools during the course of the investigation to look into “several video files of child sexual abuse” which had been stored in a cloud account online.

“….detectives were able to identify an individual residing in Hawthorne as responsible for uploading the video files to the ‘cloud’,” the statement read.  Kosa was identified as “the person responsible for uploading the aforementioned material” and a search of his residence resulted in “several computer devices” being seized as relevant to their investigation.

The forensic examination of his cell phone resulted in detectives finding “an additional cloud account” where approximately nine child sexual abuse videos were stored, as well as “over 200 video and image files of child pornography” stored in the cell phone’s photo album.

The statement said that detectives are continuing their work to extract additional information from the other devices he had.

This is not Kosa’s first run in with the law, according to the statement, which said that Kosa had been convicted in 2010 for “possession of child pornography and sentenced to 3 years probation.”  He was described as working as a tavern cook in Pearl River, New York.

Kosa, who is currently in custody at the Passaic County Jail in Paterson, was charged with 3 counts of maintaining child pornography–a 2nd degree crime, 3 counts of distribution of child pornography–a 2nd degree crime, and 3 counts of possession of child pornography–a 3rd degree crime.
