Painting the Big Picture, with a Little Help

Pass It Along just got a little craftier with the help of the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council!

The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, based in Newton, thrives on funding both historical features and art programs to approved nonprofit organizations throughout Sussex County.

Recently, the organization provided us with a $500 grant, which was disbursed amongst several programs over the past few months. Programs, such as Knit and Crochet for a Cause, are able to access supplies to create hats, scarves and other clothing for newborn infants of low income families.

The grant was also disbursed to the Empty Bowls Program, where over 300 elementary school children had the chance to decorate their own bowl. These bowls were later seen at Pass It Along’s Box City event, where over 80 local teenagers slept overnight at Sussex County Community College to raise awareness of local homelessness. Box City raised over $2,000, which was later donated to help support the fight to end hunger and homelessness locally.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was also made possible through the funds of the grant, allowing students to create 60 toiletry bags for homeless people. Three murals were also created in the Pass It Along Youth Center, located on Brooks Avenue, in Newton.

The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council continues to help other nonprofit organizations, and always accept donations to continue their love of history and the arts. We are very thankful for their support!
