Nutley Public Library Invites Children to “Read for the Record” at Special Story Time Events on November 7 – TAPinto.net

The Nutley Public Library will join millions of readers around the world on Thursday, November 7 as the library participates in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record event with story times at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM. TAPinto Nutley’s Editor John Lee will read the book Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora as the Nutley Public Library joins libraries, schools and other groups around the world who are reading the same book on the same day.

A craft related to the story will be provided, and patrons that register for the event will receive a free copy of the book while supplies last and a Read for the Record certificate. The program is for all ages and all supplies will be provided. To register, patrons should visit youthservices.nutleypubliclibrary.org and select a story time.

Jumpstart’s annual Read for the Record campaign is a global initiative to highlight the importance of early literacy. For the 14th year, Read for the Record will bring together millions of adults and children as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading. To date, over 20 million people have participated in Read for the Record, and hundreds of thousands of quality books have been distributed to children in underserved communities across the country.

This year’s selected book Thank You, Omu! is a Caldecott Honor Book and author Oge Mora is the winner of the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award. The story follows Omu, a woman who makes a delicious stew whose scent attracts the entire neighborhood and brings everyone together for a festive meal.

Nutley Public Library participated in the 2018 Read for the Record event, which included 1,728,391 readers from 49 states and 60 countries. Due to last year’s popularity, the library has expanded to two story times this year, one at 10:30 AM and another at 6:30 PM.
