Police have received a number of complaints regarding phone fraud involving PSEG. Police Chief Strumolo urges residents to contact PSEG directly if anyone representing to be from there are seeking payment.
If you sell any item/s on the internet, DO NOT accept a check for more than the item was agreed to be sold. DO NOT deposit checks that have instructions to send a portion of that check to another location. The checks are fraudulent and you WILL lose money from your account.

Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing Nutley resident.
25 y/o Matthew Colom was reported missing this week by his mother who last reported hearing from him on by phone on December 14th.
Mathew drives a Black Mitsubishi Lancer NJ Registration E65-KLU. Police detectives are investigating and request anyone that may know Matthews whereabouts contact the Nutley Police Department 973-284-4940

Occupied Residential Burglary-Bayard St- Police were called to a residence when the homeowner observed an unknown man in their home. When he observed her he fled through the front door. Detectives on scene discovered jewelry missing and are investigating.

Dispute- Police were called to a local gas station when a customer complained of being overcharged. They reported they told attendant that more fuel was dispensed then what was requested.

Burglary to auto Arrest- Police arrested a 15 y/o from Orange and 17 y/o from Newark for burglarizing Nutley residents vehicles. Police attempted to stop two juveniles after receiving calls of burglarized vehicles along Hampton, Witherspoon, Hunt, Oakridge and Duncan when the two fled from Officers. They were both quickly apprehended and arrested. Both were in possession of large amount of loose change in addition police recovered a bag full of electronics that had been stolen from one of the vehicles. Both juveniles turned over to the custody of an adult charges to be drafted through juvenile division.

Motor Vehicle Stop Arrest- While on a radar detail on Brookline Ave., Police observed a vehicle traveling south at a speed greater than the posted limit of 25 mph. The driver 31 y/o Anthony Spalliero of Staten Island had a NY ID Only card. And found to have a suspended NJ driver’s license and an outstanding criminal warrant for $1000.00 out of Union NJ. Police also discovered CDS and Paraphernalia in the console of his vehicle. Mr. Spalliero was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was summoned and released.

Shoplifting- Harrison St. The caller reported two suspects fled in a black four door vehicle with a NY registration. The caller further stated the vehicle proceeded west on Harrison St towards Bloomfield Ave.
Security footage shows suspects entering the store. Suspect #1 was wearing a blue/black “bubble jacket”, blue jeans, grey headwear, and black shoes. Suspect #2 was wearing a blue/grey zip up hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and white headphones around his neck.
After further investigation, inventory stolen was Rogaine: valued at close to 400.00
Police are investigating.
Fire Complaint Mapes Ave– Police and fire responded to Mapes Ave when a paper bag containing candles caught fire. The bag was extinguished.
Arrest on Warrant- Passaic at Stewart- Nutley Police stopped a motorist for a moving violation and found the driver 58 y/o Mr. Kerry Clark of Little Ferry’s license was checked through my vehicle’s MDT which showed, a suspension and a warrant out of Bridgewater Township for $750.00 He was placed under arrest and taken to headquarters where he was turned over to Bergen County Sherriff for the outstanding warrant.

Fireworks Complaint – Hopper– Nutley Police responded to Hopper and surrounding area, in response to a complaint of fireworks being set off. Police spoke to several residents in the immediate are, and determined the fireworks were set from the power lines area.
Stolen Vehicle- Hancox- Police responded to Hancox Ave in response to a stolen vehicle. The victim told police the vehicle was taken approx.. 12:43 AM. The vehicle a 2017 Infiniti was entered in the police stolen vehicle data base, and recovered in Newark on 12/28.
Burglary to auto attempt- Yale St- a resident reported to police that they observed a party attempting to gain entry into their vehicle via their home surveillance system. Police investigating determined that the vehicle had not been entered, but warn residents to continue securing their valuables and locking their cars.

Arrest on Warrant – Middlesex County – Nutley Police responded to Middlesex County Correctional Facility to pick up 30 y/o Shariek Barrett of Plainfield on a warrant out of our jurisdiction. Court Administrator advised that Mr. Barrett could not be released on his own recognizance due to his history of failing to appear. He was transported to Essex County Jail pending a court hearing.
Fraud – On Yale Street a resident came into HQ to report an incident of fraud which occurred on 12/14. They stated they received a call on 12/14 at 11:16 AM. The male party stated they had her son, hostage and had a gun to his head. The male party stated they wanted $ 1,000.00 or they would shoot him. The resident stated they put another male party on the phone that sounded like her son at which time she stated she would comply but stated she did not have $ 1,000.00. The resident stated the male party told her to do the following. Drive to the nearest Walgreens and purchase the following. Three (3) AT&T pre paid cell phone cards worth $ 100.00 and one (1) T-Mobile pre-paid cell phone card worth $ 50.00 for a total of $ 350.00. The victim was advised to scratch the back of the cards and provide them with the numbers, which they did, then the fraudster hung up the phone. The victim immediately contacted their son who was not involved and realized they were just defrauded out of 350.00.
Unwanted Party- Franklin Ave- A Nutley Doctors Office contacted police to advise they had an unwanted party in their practice unwilling to leave. Police arrived and found the unwilling party was a patient requesting their medical records but was refused, which escalated into a dispute. Police were able to resolve the matter.

Arrest on Warrant- Washington and King – Police questioned 27 y/o Michael Esquilin of Bloomfield, and found him to have an outstanding warrant out of that jurisdiction. He was placed under arrest and taken to Police Headquarters where the warrant was satisfied and he was released.
Medical- New Street- Nutley Police along with NRVS and Medics were called when a 3 y/o accidently caught her fingers between a bicycle chain and sprocket. Detective McDermott was able to free the girl by cutting the chain with bolt cutters, the child was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Criminal Mischief- Passaic and Union- Police responded to this location in response to the front door of building being kicked in. The caller made several inconsistent statements to police and believed it to be a familiar party who was not permitted in residence. Landlord arrived on scene to secure door.
Hazardous Condition- Passaic and Centre – Police responded to this location in response to a resident reporting that they found several hypodermic needles. Police took possession and disposed of them.
