Nutley Community School School Subject of State Investigation After Missing Toddler Incident – TAPinto.net

NUTLEY, NJ – The Community School in Nutley is the subject of a State of New Jersey investigation after a toddler went missing from their operation in St. Paul’s Congregational Church in Nutley. 

The toddler, who went missing on Monday, off sometime after being dropped off by his father, was reunited with his parents, unharmed after being found on Franklin Ave. in the vicinity of Starbucks. 

According to a report from the Nutley Police Department, the child left the preschool on Monday, crossed High St. and was stopped by a concerned citizen. The unnamed citizen safeguarded the child and waited for police to arrive. The Nutley Police Department reports that it “appeared that the child walked out of an opened door.”

In a letter sent to parents by Director Joan Skorupski, she states that the state will be investigating the quality of care at the St. Paul’s location. A Nutley parent provided TAPinto Nutley with a copy of the letter. It is attached in the “photos” of this article. 

According to the letter, a buzzer will sound when a door is opened. The letter states that the new system is in place as of Friday Nov. 8. The buzzer is reported to alert the Nutley Police Department. 

Attempts to reach the Community School of Nutley were met with either the opportunity to leave a voicemail, or incessant ringing with no one taking the call. Should the Community School respond, TAPinto Nutley will publish their response. 

The Community School of Nutley rents space from local churches including St. Paul’s Congregational, Grace Church Episcopal, and Vincent Methodist Church. The community school was founded in 1967.
