7th Congressional District Democratic Primary

  • Tom Malinowski:

“Congress is broken and this fall, New Jersey has an opportunity to lead the way on fixing it,” said Senator Kean. “Our country needs to move past the partisan finger pointing and come together around solutions. I know what it takes to bring Republicans and Democrats together and find innovative ways to accomplish big goals like creating new economies and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. New Jersey deserves real leadership and a representative that understands their needs.”

The 7th Congressional District includes all of Hunterdon County and parts of Somerset, Union, Morris, Warren, and Essex counties.

Malinowski is finishing up his first term as Congressman after defeating Leonard Lance in 2018. He grew up outside of the district in Princeton, before moving into District 7 in Rocky Hill last year. He considers himself “not a career politician” but a “career public servant.”

Kean Jr., who has served as Senate minority leader since 2003, has a family legacy pf public service. He is the grandson of former U.S. Representative Robert Winthrop Kean and son of former Governor Thomas H. Kean Sr.

Dr. Raafat Barsoom is a Christian born in Egypt with a dream to be a doctor. He opened a medical office in Cairo before moving to the United States where he became an Emergency and Trauma doctor.

Tom Phillips of Scotch Plains has worked in finance and human resources for small businesses and large corporations while also serving as an adjunct college instructor. He’s taught both finance and competitive strategy in a graduate school setting.
