Newark Fire Spreads To 3 Homes; 7 Families Relocated – Newark, NJ Patch
NEWARK, NJ — A total of seven Newark families, including eight children, had to be relocated after a two-alarm fire at 817 South 14th Street on Thursday. Multiple firefighters were injured, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, firefighters responded to a vacant, 2.5-story residence at 11:02 a.m. A call for a second alarm was put out immediately after they arrived, with about 70 crew members responding in total.
The fire soon extended to 813-815 South 14th Street, an occupied three-story wood frame residence, and then to 819 South 14th Street, another occupied, three-story wood-frame home, authorities said.

The fire was placed under control at 12:32 p.m., officials said.
A firefighter sustained a minor injury to his neck while battling the blaze. He was evaluated at the scene by EMS and remained on duty. After the incident, two other firefighters were evaluated by EMS responders, one for a shoulder injury and the other for burns to the neck, authorities said.

No other injuries were reported, authorities stated.
Officials said that five families, including 13 adults and eight children, were relocated from 813-815 South 14th Street. In addition, a pair of families, including two adults, were relocated from 819 South 14th Street.
The Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, officials said Thursday evening.
