Newark Fire Claims Life, Injures 7, Including Child: Officials – Newark, NJ Patch
NEWARK, NJ — A fire on Magazine Street in Newark on Friday claimed a man’s life and injured seven victims, including a child, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the blaze took place around 11 p.m. at a three-story, residential building at 105 Magazine Street. About 70 firefighters responded to the scene after a second alarm was called.
The fire – which was located on the 2nd floor – “quickly spread” to the 3rd floor and an attached building at 107 Magazine Street, authorities said.
An adult male died during the fire and seven victims, including one child, were transported to University Hospital for treatment. Two victims were reportedly in critical condition, authorities said.
Authorities said 15 people were relocated due to the damage.
Firefighters had the blaze under control at 11:54 p.m. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Fire Division Arson Unit.
