Newark cop fatally shoots estranged wife, wounds her boyfriend: report – New York Post
An off-duty Newark police lieutenant fatally shot his estranged wife and seriously wounded her boyfriend Sunday night, according to a report.
Lt. John Formisano, a 24-year veteran of the department, opened fire inside a home in Jefferson, according to NJ.com, which cited a Newark police spokesman.
He left children in the house and fled after the shooting, WNBC reported, citing police sources.
The woman’s boyfriend was listed in critical condition, but the children were not harmed, according to the station.
Formisano was arrested at his parents’ house in Livingston, according to a spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Jefferson police posted a statement on Facebook about a “serious incident” in the White Rock section of the township in Morris County.
Police said there was no danger to the public and that the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to release information “at the appropriate time.”
