N.J woman killed, 6 seriously hurt, including 3 children, in Connecticut crash – NJ.com
A 30-year-old New Jersey woman was killed and six others — including three children — seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Friday in Connecticut, authorities said.
The 37-year-old man was driving a Honda Accord north on Route 15 in Woodbridge, Connecticut shortly before 2 p.m. when the car veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree, Connecticut State Police said.
Front seat passenger Siryania Albino-Defernandez, of Union City, was brought to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver and five backseat passengers — an 18-year-old woman, a 27 year-old woman, a 7-year-old girl, a 6-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy — are all from Union City and were brought to the same hospital with serious injuries.
Albino-Defernandez was the wife of the driver, according to a GoFundme.com page established by the driver’s brother. The couple is the parents of two of the three injured children.
“Siryania was not only my sister-in-law, she was the sister I never had,” an English translation of the GoFundme says. “Siryania was a good wife, mother and a hard working woman and always achieved her purpose.”
The police report says the airbags in the car deployed but doesn’t say if anyone was wearing a seat belt. Connecticut State Police declined to provide updates on the injured.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area is asked to call Connecticut State Police at 203-393-4200.
