More Than a Hundred Backpacks Given to Children in Foster Care by JLMN and Montclair Community Partners – TAPinto.net

NEWARK, NJ – 126 backpacks were distributed directly to children in foster care in Essex County through a drive organized by The Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc. (JLMN).
Children arrived with excitement to the Boys & Girls Club of Newark on Saturday, August 17th. They were greeted with brand new backpacks, filled with school supplies and a Domino’s Pizza party donation of pizzas and dessert.
“As students prepare for the start of the new school year, we believe the new backpacks and school supplies will help to give them the confidence they need to be successful,” said JLMN President, Stephanie Hutton.
To participate in the drive, donors purchased backpacks and filled them with items from a supply list for that grade or shopped via an Amazon wishlist. Age groupings were Pre K & K, 1st-4th, 5th-8th, and 9th-12th.
Notable donors include The Rotary Club of the Caldwells, who donated 23 filled backpacks for the high school age groups and The Lane Team, who donated 60 filled backpacks for 1st-4th graders.
The backpack distribution was made possible through the JLMN’s community partner, Embrella, the leading statewide advocacy agency for foster, adoptive and kinship parents in NJ. Their mission is to provide advocacy and enriching programs and services to empower families and youth to thrive
