Montclair Council Candidate Makes Final Pitch To Voters – Montclair, NJ Patch

MONTCLAIR, NJ — As the deadline for ballots nears in Montclair’s municipal election on May 12, a candidate for town council is making a final pitch to local voters.
On Tuesday, Roger Terry, who is running for an at-large seat on the Montclair Town Council, issued a down-to-the-wire call for votes in the 2020 election, which is being held through mail-in ballots only due to the coronavirus crisis.
Terry’s statement follows below.
“My name is Roger Terry. As the municipal election cycle comes to an end, I’d like to make one last pitch to voters as I run for Councilor-At-Large.
“I was born and raised here. I graduated from Montclair High School, and my wife and I raised our children here. I served with our police department for 35 years, first as a patrolman, then with the community policing division, as the press agent, and finally as the Deputy Chief. When I retired from the police department, I continued my career in public service. I served as Montclair Councilor-At-Large for 4 years, including a stint as Deputy Mayor.
“For most, it’s hard to focus on politics right now. The COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged our community. But make no mistake: having tested, experienced, and compassionate leaders in local government is critical, now more than ever. That’s why I’m running again for Town Council.
“My experience in crisis management and emergency response will be a huge asset as we meet this challenge. I’ve worked on homicides and helped coordinate the local response to the 9/11 attacks. I will work to bring together a pandemic task force and will be transparent with my constituents on Day 1 about everything in regards to coronavirus.
“As we rebuild and reopen, I’ll be open and accountable, bringing everyone to the table. from there, I’ll advocate for a better environment by transitioning to renewable energy, using windmills and solar panels and composting trash; I’ll fight to ensure there are safe and accessible facilities for our seniors post-retirement; and I’ll work to bridge the town’s class divide by implementing rent control measures, holding developers to building affordable housing projects, and providing equal representation to all people.
“The election is almost over. Please mail in your ballot by May 12. Thank you.”
