Moms Helping Moms Foundation Founder Bridget Cutler Receives ‘Jefferson Award’
SUMMIT, NJ – Moms Helping Moms Foundation founder and executive director Bridget Cutler has been named a recipient of a New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award for public service. The New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Awards highlight the spirit of civic engagement among New Jersey’s 1.5 million volunteers and provide Jefferson Awards medals in 22 categories of volunteer service.
Cutler was honored in the Founders & Innovators category, which recognizes individuals whose vision and dedication result in the establishment of a new organization to meet unmet needs or new improved means of meeting those needs.
Moms Helping Moms Foundation is a North Plainfield-based baby supply and diaper bank that provides essentials so all babies can have a safe, healthy and happy start. The organization distributes more than 300,000 baby items annually to low-income families living in Union, Somerset, Morris, Essex, Warren and Hudson counties.
“I am humbled and honored to be presented with the Jefferson Award,” said Cutler. “I started Moms Helping Moms Foundation seven years ago out of my garage because I never wanted a single child to go without basics like clothes, shoes or diapers. The growth of the organization over the years reflects the deep need in our communities, and has only been possible because of our dedicated and committed supporters who generously give their time and resources. I want to especially thank Monica Smith of Marketsmith for nominating me, and for being a champion of our cause.”
The Jefferson Awards were established in 1972 as the official recognition program of the United States Senate. They are considered America’s highest honor for public service and volunteerism. In New Jersey the awards are also the official recognition program of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Volunteerism.
