Missing 17-year-old boy sought – NJ TODAY

Authorities in Linden are asking the public to help them find a missing 17-year-old boy. Linden Police said Matthew Wilson was last seen in the area of Cedar Ave in Linden at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Linden Police described the vanished youth as a black male, about 6-feet tall who was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, and black sneakers and carrying a gray backpack and black duffel bag.

Another Linden teenager, Morven Verelus, has been missing since January 2020. Authorities said he may be staying in the Linden area.

Anyone with information about the location or situation of either missing boy is encouraged to call the Linden Police Department at 908-474-8500.

“In Union County, nearly sixty individuals are presently classified as missing,” said Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo. “It is important to remember that these missing persons are not just someone’s family or friend, they are valued members of our community in Union County. Even if you are not personally connected to one of the missing, every share and retweet brings us one step closer to reaching someone who may know something.”

The plight of missing children is not as uncommon as one might think.

Maria Ixcuna-Tix of Plainfield was last seen in December of 2015. Christopher Soto was just 14 years old when last seen leaving his home in Plainfield in April of 2020. It has been more than two decades since two-year-old Kevin Sabir Barthrop was last seen on June 12, 1999, near his Chilton Street home in Elizabeth.

Investigators believe individuals with information on Barthrop’s fate live in Essex County, Union County, and North Carolina. He would be 24 years old today, if he is still alive.

“For people who love Kevin Barthrop and for the investigators who have never given up hope as they worked this case over decades, any leads generated from this initiative will assist us as we continue to search for answers,” said Ruotolo in a release issued last year marking the 21st anniversary of the Elizabeth toddler’s disappearance.
