Millburn Township to Help Host Fairy Trail Census, Parking Issues Expected – TAPinto.net
MILLBURN, NJ – As part of an effort to help build awareness about the upcoming 2020 census, the South Mountain Reservation will play host to the inaugural fairy trail census event.
The event will take place this Friday, Oct. 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The U.S. Census Bureau, Essex County Parks, South Mountain Conservancy and SOMA Action will be hosting the event at Locust Grove in the South Mountain Reservation, to help raise awareness about the 2020 Census.
Following speeches from dignitaries, children from local school districts will canvas the Fairy Trail, a set of small homes tucked into the natural environment along the Rahway Trail in the reservation. Additionally, there also will be a half-hour hike up to the lookout at Washington Rock.
Participants in the census event will receive Certificates of Appreciation. it is not necessary to sign up to attend, but registration is preferred by the organizers. Interested residents may sign up here, so that the organizers know that you are coming.
The event will start at the parking lot at Locust Grove, 197 Glen Ave., Millburn. The lot itself will be closed to traffic, but parking will be available across the street at commuter lots 7 and 9 near the Millburn Free Public Library. As a result, parking near the library may be difficult to obtain.
On the same day as the fairy census, the Millburn public library will host a job fair to sign-up some of the 50,000 New Jersey residents needed to do the actual census. The rain date for the event is Friday, Oct. 25.
