Millburn Short Hills Community Service Award Committee Launches New Website for Nominations
Millburn Township residents and nonresidents who volunteer in the Township are invited to participate in this new Community Service Award Committee opportunity. Residents who are aware of someone who has done extraordinary service for our community can now propose that candidate online to receive the Township’s annual community service award.
For 30 years, the Township recognized Millburn residents who have significantly contributed to the community. This fall, Scouts BSA Troop 19 Eagle Scout candidate Riya Tyagi, partnered with the Millburn Township Community Service Award Committee (CSAC) to introduce a new youth volunteer service award and, through the use of modern technology, to automate the nomination and selection process for the service awards. Her project vision is to expand the award to recognize deserving youth and adults for their volunteer activities and to encourage diverse and inclusive nominations.
Community service awards are presented annually by the CSAC, which aims to “recognize members of the community who have generously given their time and who, through their volunteer activities, have enhanced the quality of life in the Township of Millburn and the community at large.” To learn more, visit the CSAC webpage.
Inspiring service and recognizing the efforts of diverse community members, including youth, was very meaningful to Ms. Tyagi, which is why she approached the CSAC for her Eagle Scout project. Ms. Tyagi noted, “Volunteer work starting at a young age has countless positive effects. I am fortunate to reap these benefits through Scouting and am excited for my Eagle project as it helps raise awareness about the importance of community service, inspires others to volunteer, and allows deserving volunteers to be recognized!”
With the enhanced online nomination process, anyone can nominate a youth or adult candidate for an award on the CSAC’s website by filling out a simple form. Each nomination would then be considered by the Community Service Award Committee for the youth or adult service awards. The committee will begin to accept nominations starting January 1st, 2021 via the nomination portal.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to nominate someone making his, her, or their mark on the town. To learn more about the awards, contact the CSAC committee chair, Ms. Becker, at elainebecker@comcast.net . For information about the Eagle project, contact Ms. Tyagi at pialityagi@gmail.com.
Community Service Award Committee members and Ms. Tyagi look forward to increased resident participation inspiring community service and recognition of deserving residents.
