MFEE, Montclair Schools and MCCYC to Host Parent Conference, Oct. 28
MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE), the
Montclair Public Schools, and The Montclair Community Council for Young Children (MCCYC) are
excited to launch “You Got This!” an engaging mini-conference for Montclair families with young
children on Sunday, October 28, from 1:30PM – 5:30PM at Nishuane Elementary School (32 Cedar
Avenue).
We have all heard it before. “Parenting is the most rewarding job on the planet.” And it is, of course. But,
why is it so hard? If we are charged with nurturing the next generation of healthy, well-adjusted,
productive citizens during a time of increasing challenges, then we are going to need some help.
You Got This! will provide caregivers with some tools — and inspiration! — for confidently parenting
the whole child. The event will allow parents to choose from a menu of workshop offerings and connect
them to the wealth of parenting resources in Montclair and Essex County. There will be plenty of
opportunities to meet other parents, so they don’t take this rollercoaster ride alone. The event is free, and
registration will open in September online at MFEE.org.
Dr. Beverly Lynn, CEO of Programs for Parents, says that MCCYC, (one of their newest initiatives), is
excited to partner with MFEE and the Montclair Public Schools to ensure that parents are equipped with
tools to foster the success of their children’s education in Montclair.
“The power of early education and the impact it can have on children is truly remarkable,” says Montclair
Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Kendra Johnson. “I welcome this new mini-conference, which will
support parents/guardians and assist them to connect with the many resources available in Montclair and
our county. The district embraces the creation of a wide net to develop lasting relationships with experts
in the field of early education, community support groups, and our parent/guardian advocacy. Let’s work
to make this first conference a huge success!”
You Got This! is the perfect counterpart to MFEE’s Life After High School Mini-Conference, which was
held in January 2018. The award-winning conference offered teens (and their caregivers) tools and
inspiration for living post-high school life with the confidence to try new things, take risks, and build
support networks. You Got This! will focus on many of the same social and emotional issues that come
with parenting, as well as offer tools and resources to help parents give their children a strong educational
foundation.
“Our hope is to spark connections for parents,” says MFEE Executive Director Masiel Rodriquez-Vars.
“We want parents to connect to a new person, a new idea, and a new resource. If they walk away feeling
like they got a warm hug, a high-five, and an energy boost to return to the marathon of parenting, then we
will have succeeded!”
Educational childcare, transportation, and dinner will be provided. .
