Meet N.J.’s New Year’s babies of 2021 – NJ.com
Ella was born with perfect timing — arriving at the stroke of midnight and ensuring she would be New Jersey’s first baby of 2021.
Aaliyah made her debut in the ambulance parked outside the hospital.
Hospitals across New Jersey once again engaged in the joyful tradition of announcing the arrival of the New Year’s newborns on Friday.
After the wretched year that was 2020, here is a refreshing, good-news health story to start 2021 off right. Enjoy.
Ella Andrea Sucuzhanay was born at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston at midnight. Weighing 7 lbs., 10 oz., and measuring 20 inches long, she is the second child of Jose and Juliana Miranda Sucuzhanay of Kearny.
“We are blessed to have our beautiful daughter,” Ella’s mother said, thanking the doctors and staff.
Aniela was born at Virtua Voorhees Hospital at 12:05 a.m., weighing 6 pounds, 7 ounces.
She is the third child for Kirsten and Pablo, who have a 6-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter. The hospital declined to release their last name for privacy reasons.
The name Aniela means “gracious and merciful.”
Jenny Goodroe of Middle Township welcomed her first child, a son named Arsea, at 12:20 a.m. at Cape Regional Medical Center. He weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce.
London Grace Mitchell arrived at 1:07 a.m., the fourth child for Amanda Mitchell and Malcolm Forbes of Clayton.
All four of their children were born at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital. London was delivered by Dr. Deborah White.
A memorable birthday like New Year’s Day deserves a special treat. London is seen here dressed in a homemade onesie created by labor and delivery nurse Jill Reilly, who designs a new “fashion statement” for the hospital’s first baby every year, a hospital spokesperson said.
Vyshnavi and Manoj Thotakura of Harrison are the proud parents of their first child, a girl, who arrived at 2:02 a.m. They are still deciding her name, an Englewood Health spokeswoman said.
Obstetrician Tanuja Penmatsa delivered the child at Englewood Hospital, where Manoj has been an employee in the information technology department since 2011.
Early this morning, Gabrielle Gonzalez of Newark traveled by ambulance to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where she intended to deliver her child.
Aaliyah Ana Delia Jefferson had other ideas. She was born in the ambulance bay outside the hospital at 2:10 a.m. She is 6 pounds, 14 ounces.
“The EMS and NBIMC Emergency Department team worked quickly to get mom and baby out of the cold and up to the Labor and Delivery Suite in the Women’s Health Unit where they both are resting comfortably,” a hospital spokesperson said.
Jersey City Medical Center welcomed its first newborn of 2021 at 2:59 a.m. with the arrival of Belen.
This is the second child for Brigitte Cruz and Andres Segura of Jersey City.
Baby Belen weighs 6 pounds, 8 ounces and is 19.5 inches long.
