May events at Essex County Environmental Center

ROSELAND — A variety of programs are being offered at the Essex County Environmental Center, 621 Eagle Rock Ave., during May to will teach children and adults about nature and help them gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the environment.

Events scheduled for the rest of May are as follows:

• Little Explorers Spring Nature Program is for children 3 to 5 years old. The class for 3 year olds will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 17; for 4 and 5 year olds at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 17.

This child-caregiver class uses stories, walks and crafts to develop an awareness and appreciation for science and nature for the child as well as the caregiver. Each week, a different nature or science topic is covered. Cost is $12 per child per class. Advance registration, payment and minimum number of participants required. • Horticulture for Seniors will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 21. Join the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County for this horticulture class especially designed for senior citizens. The topic for May is Merry Month of May. Meet in Garibaldi Hall.

• New Jersey Woodturners for adults and children ages 3 and older will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21.

Learn to turn with the NJ Woodturners Association (NJWA). Discover the wonders of creating art from found pieces of wood. Topics vary by the month. Meet in Garibaldi Hall. Cost is $10 per adult and free for NJWA members. Call Bob Amarant at 908-442-4729 for details.

• 4-H Young Gardeners Club for children in grades 1 through 10 will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22.

• Flowers, Flutters & Fun, an exhibit by Maria “Mané” Robinson, will be on display in the Environmental Center during the months of May and June.
