Mary Hall Obituary (2021) – Belmar, NJ – Asbury Park Press – Legacy.com

Mary Sweeney Hall

Mary Sweeney Hall of Belmar and formerly of South Orange passed away peacefully on Sunday August 1st with loving family at her side.

Mary was born in Newark to her parents Hugh and Mary (Gallagher) Sweeney. She often fondly reminisced about growing up with her 6 siblings on Bergen Street and spending time at the family business, Sweeney’s Tavern.

The legacy of “Mary Hall from Donegal” is truly a great one that was centered around family, faith, and strong, lifelong friendships.

Her family of 12 children, 35 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren was her “Hallmark” and the well from which she drew her deepest pleasures in life. Her Catholic faith was a constant that provided hope and assurance in any situation. She truly followed the words of St. John, “I have appointed you to go out and bear fruit, fruit that will last”.

Her many friends were a testament both to her unfailing commitment to others and an outgoing personality matched by her quiet yet highly effective Irish wit.

Mary and her husband Robert Hall, Sr. raised 12 children in both South Orange and Belmar. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish (South Orange) and Church of The Ascension (Bradley Beach). Mary was employed for a time by The Essex County Sherriff’s Office. She volunteered her time for “Meals on Wheels” and The St. Vincent DePaul Society, and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a founding member of The Women of Irish Heritage.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her devoted husband Robert, her daughter Ellen Marie, her grandson Dillon Beissel, and her 6 brothers and sisters: Anna, Bridget, John, Hugh, Peter, and Miles.

Mary is survived by 11 of her children: Bridget Beissel (Howard), Thomas Hall (Susan), Marybeth Hall, Dorothy Lurch, Robert Hall Jr. (Christine), Colleen Brennan (Kevin), Hugh Hall (Jane), Bernadette Harrington (William), Noreen Kilduff (James), Dennis Hall (Maureen), and John Hall (Lauren).

Mary also leaves behind 35 grandchildren: Conor Beissel, Thomas Hall Jr., Erin Hall, Stephen Husarik, Timothy Husarik, Bernadette Lurch, Frank Lurch Jr, Robert Lurch, Michael Lurch, Sean Brackin, Madeline Hall, Robert Hall III, Caroline Hall, Meghamn Brennan Guttormsen, Kara Brennan Vacca, Kendall Brennan, Kevin Brennan Jr., Hugh Hall, Bridget Hall, William Harrington, Ryan Harrington, Kasey Harrington, Madison Kilduff, McKenzie Kilduff, Kelly Kilduff, James Kilduff II, Aidan Hall, Colin Hall, Grace Hall, Mary Hall, Henry Hall, Dennis Hall, Molly Hall, and Remy Hall, and 8 great grandchildren: Cillian, Margaux, Sasha, Lisette, Avery, Wallace, Sterling, and Jack.

“Mommy”, as she was known and loved by so many, will be deeply missed by her large and devoted family and wide circle of friends.

“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Services to honor Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 4th between 3pm and 9pm at Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 5th at 11am at Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach. Committal will take place privately.
