Man Robbed At Gunpoint Saturday Night, Rutgers Police Say – New Brunswick, NJ Patch
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Someone affiliated with Rutgers University was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning near the intersection of Richardson and Wyckoff streets.
This is according to Rutgers campus police, who declined to say whether it was a student or a teacher who was robbed, but would only say the victim is affiliated with the school.
The victim, a man, was robbed at 1:20 a.m. Sunday. He reported that he was approached by three men who displayed a single handgun and took several items of value through force. The victim was not physically injured and the suspects fled on foot in the direction of College Avenue.
This happened only a few blocks away from where nine people were shot, and two killed, at this off-campus party the weekend prior, Sept. 12 on Delafield Street.
Someone pulled up in a car and fired several shots into a house party in the area of 32 Delafield Street, just blocks from the campus, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. Nine people total were shot; two men died.
The shooting has no connection to Rutgers or its students, a university spokesman told Patch. Neither the victims who died, or the seven people who were shot and are recovering, are affiliated with Rutgers.
Many Rutgers students are taking virtual classes from home, but according to the university, there are still 8,000 to 10,000 upperclassmen students living in off-campus housing in New Brunswick, Highland Park and Piscataway this fall.
