A woman of faith who was devoted to her family Joan McNamara Egan, 92, of Spring Lake Heights passed away peacefully on January 30 . Joan grew up and attended school in East Orange, and lived and raised her family, with her husband Bill, in West Orange – before moving to Spring Lake Heights. Joan, Bill and their family enjoyed many happy summers in Avon-by-the -Sea. She graduated from Trinity College in Washington D.C. and then completed graduate work in English as a Second Language at Kean College in Union. Joan was a dedicated teacher of English as a Second Language and Basic Skills with the Essex County Services Commission. After retirement, she was a volunteer at Kessler Institute and with R.S.V.P. Reading Buddies Program in Belmar. Joan was a member of the Trinity College Alumnae Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and the Rosary Society of St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt Joan was a woman of faith, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and a loyal friend to many. Joan is predeceased by her husband William J. Egan Jr. She is survived by her four children and their spouses; Denise and Herb Letteer, Bill and Teresa Egan, Eileen and Donald O’Connor and John and Susan Egan, her seven grandchildren Conor (Heather), Matthew and Molly Egan, Brian and Kelsey Egan, Daniel and Brendan Letteer and two great grandchildren, Liam and Ewan Egan. The Egan family thanks Joan’s caregivers at the Arbors and Sunnyside Manor for their kindness and compassion. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday, February 3 at 10:30am at Saint Aloysius RC Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. Committal to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
