Newark, NJ (WABC)-Police are providing rewards to help identify two people interested in killing their 63-year-old grandmother.

Sheriff Essex County has provided up to $ 10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Debra Derrick.

Derrick was sitting on the front porch with his grandchildren and other family members around 8 pm on March 11.

They were trying to release the balloons to celebrate her birthday and the birthday of her deceased twin sister.

She pushed her granddaughter out of the way into the house and put herself in a line of fire.

“She endangered her life for us,” said her granddaughter Nakiya O’Neill. “When she took the bullet, there were two bullets in her head for us.”

Authorities are seeking help from the general public to identify the two stakeholders sought in connection with the murder.
