ICE Searching For Detainee Who Escaped From Prison In Newark – Patch.com

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are searching for a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainee who escaped from the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark last week.
According to a Wednesday statement from ICE, a U.S. District Court has issued a criminal warrant for the arrest of Luis Cordon-Guzman, 31, a Guatemalan national who was previously deported.
Cordon-Guzman has multiple pending felony charges in Trenton, based on a March 16 arrest by local police. Following his arrest, ICE filed an immigration detainer with the Mercer County Correctional Facility in Trenton. Cordon-Guzman was transferred to ICE custody and detained at the Essex County Correctional Facility on March 17.
Cordon-Guzman escaped from the county-run prison on Dec. 4.
Cordon-Guzman was previously removed from the United States on April 24, 2019. He illegally reentered the U.S. on an unknown date and location, a felony under federal law, authorities said.
ICE and multiple law enforcement agencies are currently conducting an investigation to locate Cordon-Guzman, authorities said Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Cordon-Guzman can contact their local ICE office or call the national hotline at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE (TTY for hearing impaired: 802-872-6196).
