Hundreds of Belleville Residents Turn Out for Three Kings Day Celebration – TAPinto.net

BELLEVILLE, NJ – Wrapped gifts for girls and boys. Glimmering costumes. Even live camels.

The second annual Three Kings Day on Jan. 6 had a little bit of everything – even three kings. Mayor Michael Melham and the Township Council invited hundreds of residents to the drive-through event at the Belleville Senior Center on Franklin Avenue.

They followed searchlights that crisscrossed the sky to the Belleville Senior Center on Franklin Avenue, where they found people dressed in costumes, swaying to holiday music.

Residents waved from their cars and looked with joy at the bright lights as they made their way through the course.

Of course, younger residents seemed to really enjoy catching sight of the camels, who were busy munching away on some hay.

“This is quickly becoming a much-beloved, much-anticipated annual tradition in Belleville,” Melhamsaid. “It was wonderful to see so many residents not only come out to enjoy the event, but also take part in the preparation of it.”

Three Kings Day is especially popular in Spain and Latin American countries, where Dia de las Reyes is commemorated by giving gifts to children.

The event was supported by the National Latino Peace Officers Association, the Latin American
Motorcycle Association-Newark Chapter and the Mayor Michael Melham Civic Association.
