Hundertmark, Jay L., – 74, of Egg Harbor Township, passed away at home on June 3rd, 2018. He was born on 10/26/43 at Edgewood Arsenal, MD, where his father was stationed, at the time, during WW II. He was a 1961 graduate of Union High School, Union, NJ. and a 1965 graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NJ. from which he graduated with a B.S. in Science; and a 3rd Mate’s License; and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. At the Academy’s Awards Convocation on July 30, 1965 he received an award for the highest overall average in the Department of Maritime Law & Economics. After graduation from the Academy he spent 3 years as a deck officer aboard various U. S. merchant ships. During his time in the Merchant Marine, two of the ships he served aboard made three separate around the world voyages, the first of which took place during his second year at the Academy when cadets were sent out in pairs to serve aboard actual U.S. merchant ships for hands on training and experience. Following his time in the Merchant Marine, he entered Rutgers Law School in Newark, NJ, graduating with a law degree in 1971 and becoming a member of the NJ bar that year. His first employment work as an attorney was with the law firm of Sills, Beck, Cummis, Radin & Tischman in Newark, NJ, which was the best thing that ever happened to him, as it is where he met and married his wife, Roseann (Fancera), a legal secretary, in 1973. Following their marriage, he entered public prosecutions, serving as an attorney in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the Division of Criminal Justice in the Attorney General’s Office; the State Commission of Investigation; and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. After the legalization of casino gambling in NJ. he joined Bally’s Park Place Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, where he first headed its licensing department and then established its claims and litigation department, where he defended Bally’s in numerous civil lawsuits throughout N.J. Upon leaving Bally’s in 1984, he opened his law office in Atlantic County, where he continued to defend Bally’s as well as Caesars Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Hilton, and the Showboat Casino in a variety of civil lawsuits, in addition to representing individual clients in a numerous litigated matters. He retired from the active practice of law in 2011 after forty years of practice. He was a tennis player, a golfer, a bowler, regularly engaged in various physical exercises to stay fit; and was an excellent bridge, pinochle and hearts player. In the past, he had also enjoyed coaching EHT street hockey and Babe Ruth Baseball. He is survived by his loving, caring and thoughtful wife, Roseann, and the two wonderful children she gave him; Glenn and his wife Brynn of EHT, Kevin and his wife Christina and their daughters, McKenna Rose and Emerson Laine of Medford; his brother Jon of Galloway and his sister Joy Amelio [Ross] of FL. He is predeceased by his father Helmuth and his mother Alice (Simcox), both formerly of Hillside, Union, and Waretown, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; the Neurology Department of Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.; the ASPCA; or the United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Foundation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 8th at 11:00AM, at St. Gianna Parish/ St. Bernadette’s Church, in Northfield, with a viewing beginning at 10:00AM.
